Today weâre answering one of your most frequently asked questions: How do I wash a wig?
Now you might be thinking, can I wash my synthetic wig? Well...yes! We just suggest that you do not wash it too frequently (just when it needs to be). It's generally recommended that synthetic wigs be washed after every 15-20 wearings. If you wash too frequently, you may risk shortening the life of your wig. For quick refreshes between washes spritz a dry shampoo which has the benefit of eliminating oils, ouders, and helps to texturize and lessen shine.
If youâve deemed your wig ready to washâŚ
Washing a wig is a bit different than washing your hair, but donât worry, weâll help you through the process step-by-step.
â¨Step 1: Detangleâ¨
Â
Just like you would with your hair, make sure to brush your synthetic wig before you start washing it! We suggest using either a wide tooth comb or a paddle brush to detangle. Make sure to lay your piece flat on a table and start brushing from the ends and work your way up to the roots to avoid breakage!

Even though you might love a super hot shower, your wig definitely wonât!Â
Use lukewarm water and a teaspoon of shampoo in a bowl or basin. Use a gentle sulfate-free or wig-specific shampoo. Place the wig into the water for one minute until itâs saturated with the shampoo/water combination. You can gently lather in circular motions if needed.
Remove your wig from the basin and gently squeeze excess water from your wig. Try not to twist or wring your wig. Gently blot your wig dry with a towel.
Place the wig back on its form or lay flat to dry completely before styling. Never style a wet wig! Just like your hair when wet tension on the hair fibers can cause them to stretch and break.Â
â¨Step 3: Conditionerâ¨
Use a special wig conditioner, or you can keep your wig feeling soft and silky with your fav leave-in conditioner, detangler, hair mask, or serum.
For best results, leave the conditioner or hair mask on for about 5 to 10 minutes. (You can also leave it on overnight!). Note: do not use heavy leave-in creams or oils.
Rinse the hair under cool running water until silky smooth. Lightly detangle any knots with fingers. Always store your wig on its wig stand or in the included satin bag. This will help to maintain its form and style.
â¨Step 4: Dryâ¨
You know how we said washing a wig was different than washing your hair?Â
Well, the same goes for drying. Make sure to air dry your wig! Place it on a wig stand or wig head, or lay flat and let nature do its thing ;)
