Best Hair Products for the Winter Season

Best Hair Products for the Winter Season

Winter is coming, babe. Seasonal changes affect everything from our wardrobes to our vibes, and of course our self-care routines.

Change is in the air (& the hair)! As we prep for gifting season, im it’s also the time to take stock of what you need to protect your hair and skin against the elements.

Read on to learn why it’s important to invest in your winter products for hair and scalp health.

Why is my hair so dry in the winter?

When temperatures drop, the air becomes drier. This is because cold winter air holds less moisture than warm air. As the air dries, your scalp and skin dries, too. And when your scalp is dry, it is stripped of natural oils and becomes prone to dandruff in the winter.

On top of temperature and air changes, hormones can shift during the winter as well, as our exposure to sunlight decreases. This contributes to drier scalps and skin. A dry scalp can also cause excessive hair loss.

Wondering how to keep hair moisturized in winter?

This may be something you struggle with, but we have tips to help you!

Deep-conditioning hair mask

Deep hair conditioning can help prevent damage and hair falling out by adding moisture and texture. It can also help prevent breakage and split ends.

Leave-in conditioner or hair oil

Whether you have natural hair, curly hair, straight hair, leave-in conditioners and hair oils can be extremely beneficial. They are extremely important if you struggle with dry, frizzy hair. Not only do people struggle with dry scalp and dandruff in winter, they also struggle with frizz and static!

Moisturizing shampoo

In cold weather, we recommend a sulfate-free, extra moisturizing shampoo followed by conditioner. Great hydrating ingredients include shea butter, jojoba oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, argan oil and honey.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil products help moisturize and soothe your scalp, which prevents dryness and itchy, flaky scalps in the winter.

Pro tip: Lifestyle changes

To take care of hair in winter naturally and internally, you can also make small beneficial changes to what you eat and drink. Incorporate fatty acids like salmon and nuts, drink lots of water and try to drink less coffee.

Coffee is a diuretic, which means it causes the body to discard water and dehydrate the skin and scalp. Drinking bone broth can also work wonders on your hair.

Also, it may be cold outside and hot showers can be a wonderful escape, but when it comes time in the shower to wash your hair, turn the water to a colder temp. Hot water makes your skin and hair dry by purging the hair of moisture, which causes winter frizzy hair. Cold water, on the other hand, closes your hair cuticles and doesn’t cause frizziness.
